CITY & SUBURBAN JACK PACE ROUND 3 v COLLEAGUES AT CAMPERDOWN OVAL, CAMPERDOWN ON SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2020: REPORT BY SOREN HUGHES
CCNSW C&S TEAM v COLLEAGUES AT CAMPERDOWN ON SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2020

Back row: Craig Kitson, Jim Hadley (c). Scott Williams, Soren Hughes, Brett James, Matt Leong
Front row: Curtis Murray (w); Tom Robertson, Paul Nash, Nick Leong, Mike Pinter
In a “must win” game for us, we had expected the opposition to at least turn up by 1pm, however we found no a sign of the opposing team until 1.20pm or so. Losing the toss, they were in to bat with 6 or 7 players by 1.30pm and a blistering display of pace by Nick Leong and Matt Leong had us once again in the box seat by drinks, with Soren Hughes and Brett James bowling well on a good bowling wicket. Unfortunately there were 3 dropped catches along the way and one of those nearly split apart Paul Nash’s hand – The Club President Mr Brooks was spectating and kind enough to take him into Hospital with David Benson quickly taking the field for us in his absence. Jim Hadley’s battle with the middle order grabbed him 3 wickets and Scott Williams and Craig Kitson grabbed 2 wickets each off tidy spells. 160 odd was a par score on a fair pitch and lightning quick outfield.
Our openers each got a start and were so surprised with the lack of pace from Colleagues openers that they didn’t go on with it. Brett James and Scott Williams quickly carried us to 100 odd, well ahead of the run rate. Scott fell and our otherwise experienced guard of Tom Robertson, Soren Hughes, Craig Kitson and Jim Hadley each fell for 8 runs between them and the pressure was firmly on Brett James, aided by Nick and Matt Leong to carry us across the line with a limp. Matt hung on for a while before an athletic effort from Colleagues got Brett for 70. As Mr Nash was not able to rescue us from his hospital bed, it was all over and we were 20 runs short. No less, we can only be giant killers and C&S bullies from this point – our dream and ambition of another JPMS title having practically ended for another season.
