ROUND 3: C.C.N.S.W.  v BOWLER’S NAME   at  ROBERTSON ROAD, MOORE PARK  MP4 ON SUNDAY 2 MAY 2021: REPORT BY RICHARD CLARK

A fine autumn morning greeted CCNSW and “Bowlers Name” at Moore Park No.4 on Sunday 2nd March. “Bowlers Name” won the toss and sent CCNSW in to bat but stand-in Captain, Peter Rolls, was unfazed.

Their bowling was erratic and P. Rolls and Richard Clark reacquainted their 2020 “bromance” at the top of the order with a chanceless opening partnership at a good clip to see the team reach 70 after 8 overs for the first wicket when P. Rolls fell for 36 (27). Scott Williams hit the first ball bouncer for a 6 before and scored a quick 21 (10) before chopping on and R. Clark retired soon after on 51* (30). A few wickets then fell as the middle order sought to continue the momentum before Josh Johnston 25* (18) and Temaika Mason 22* (14) put some good runs on at the end for the team to reach 5-169.

Jonathan Shaw and Josh Johnston bowled good opening spells with J. Johnston snaring the opener with a boundary catch at Cow Corner. However, through some loose CCNSW bowling and high-risk batting, “Bowler’s Name” reached 1-89 after 10 overs and was well in the hunt. But then R. Clark bowled their number 3, their opener retired for 50* and  J. Johnston and T. Mason both took catches and effected run out double plays off J. Shaw and Matt Leong’s bowling respectively to turn the tide in CCNSW’s favour. J. Shaw and T. Mason then dismissed the returning opener and number 8 to finish a solid victory.
