Golf

The Golf Section is always keen to welcome new player both sexes. The golf is sociable and played on pleasant courses. Ed Smith is the current President of the golf section of the Club.

Traditionally the golf section used to play once a month on Sunday mornings on such courses as:- St Michael’s, Glenmore, Bankstown, Wollongong, Riverside Oaks and North Turramurra.

After the great success of the initial C.C.N.S.W. Golf Day at Macquarie Links on 30 September, 2004 with nearly 50 attendees, Ed Smith, with the assistance of other interested members, have started to organise future golf days and revive the Club’s golf section. Successful golf days both at weekends and midweek have in the past been organised at Riverside Oaks, where the Stuart Mathlin Memorial trophy day is held and The Coast Golf Clubs. If you would like to help, contact Ed on the contact numbers below. He very much relies on the assistance of other members.

Stuart Mathlin Memorial Trophy
The Stuart Mathlin Memorial Trophy- an engraved cricket bat- is kept on display in a framed case on the wall of the Level 3 bar of the N.S.W. Sports Club in Hunter Street. The trophy is named after the late Stuart Mathlin.

Our former Golf President David Dickinson writes:
“Stuart was a regular in the Cricketers’ Club and was a regular player with the golfers. He died about 11 years ago now on the evening of the Riverside Oaks game. His brother found him when he went to pick him up for the game. As a cricketer he was the first grade captain of Roseville, opening bat or first drop and the wicketkeeper. He actually played in the first ever official game I umpired.”

Riverside Oaks is traditionally the location for the “C.C.N.S.W. Trophy Day” for the Stuart Mathlin Memorial Trophy traditionally held in August each year. For details of the course, see: www.riversideoaks.com.au
