8-A-SIDE T20 LMS WINTER COMPETITION 2020 EASTERN SYDNEY DIVISION 5, SUNDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2020

ROUND 7: CCNSW v ‘KAZAKHSTAN UNITED’ at ROBERTSON ROAD, MOORE PARK MP8 ON SUNDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2020: REPORT BY JIM HADLEY

Kazakhstan United won the toss and elected to bat. Opening the bowling for CCNSW Soren Hughes found a good line and length immediately and kept the opposition’s best and most dangerous batsmen quiet with some good changes of pace and full length deliveries. Hayden Rolls supported Soren well and hit back after some clean hitting to get his man caught at fine leg. The middle overs were bowled by our spinners David Craig (leg spin) and Richard Clark (off spin) who both finished with fabulous figures of 4 overs each for ‘bugger all’. Craig consistently beat the bat, ably supported by Will Jacobs behind the stumps. Rich Clark just kept putting the ball in the right spot making scoring difficult and tore through the middle order with Craig. Hughes took a ‘blinder’ running in from forward of point to catch Clark’s second wicket.

This was all just a prelude to an astonishing spell of bowling from a newly discovered bowling allrounder by the name of Tom Robertson with three gun barrel straight overs, clean bowling one batsman and catching another off his own bowling. Kazakhstan United 7 for 103 after 20 overs. Peter Rolls and Robertson started the chase and peeled  off runs for fun, going toe to toe till Robertson accelerated his innings with his trade mark cover drives for six and pull shots over the mid wicket boundary eventually retiring on reaching his fifty. Rolls was joined by Clark and the target was reached with ease after 12.2 overs,  both batmen holding firm for a second week of “not outs”. Thanks to Tom and Soren for accepting and delivering on an SOS due to the golf weekend and nailing down a finals birth for the Club.
