CCNSW Open Golf Day at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Course on Sunday 16 May 2021 – Report by Mike Weaver

The CCNSW Open for 2021 finally got underway, last Sunday, at the magnificent Stonecutters Ridge course. It was perfect weather for golf, at least for most of the afternoon, with the first group teeing off at 12:37pm.
As the course was fully booked and therefore player traffic very slow, more than five hours play was still just not enough time to complete the event. As such, the last hole was abandoned due to the fading light.
A big thank you to all who took part, in what was a most enjoyable day despite the somewhat farcical ending. In the circumstances, all players were marked as two Stableford points each on their scorecard, for the 18th.
Congratulations to the winner Scott Wells, who played to one shot better than his handicap.
New boys Lachlan Taylor and Harry Bridge also showed great ability as a team to take out the Pairs title. Lachie was on fire at the start of his round. After the first six holes, he was scoring individually at one under par ‘off the stick’. He eventually finished tied on points with Scott, who was declared singles winner after countback.
Mike ‘Punter’ Pinter demonstrated the power that belies his diminutive stature, taking out the longest drive award. And Jono ‘Queenslander’ Shaw showed the skill of a champion to win nearest the pin, on the very tricky, par 3, 16th hole. This hole is officially rated the most difficult of all at Stonecutters.
Best on-course coaching/advice on the day goes to Andrew Spedding. Upon being asked by Mike Weaver about how to avoid hitting into the 8th fairway bunker, Mr Spedding suggested to Mr Weaver that he simply aim for it!

A great day at Stonecutters Ridge last Sunday today for the C.C.N.S.W. end of season golf day. The weather turned on as always with plenty of sun. Well organised by Mike Weaver as CCNSW golf captain.
Scott Wells took the honours with 37 Stableford points, with Lachlan Taylor in 2nd. Looking forward to going around again next year.

Harry Bridge accepts the pairs winner award.
